Eligibility Requirements and Costs Applies to (key at bottom)
Must be active member when applying and purchasing service
Requested purchase can not be used in determining another retirement
Cannot purchase service for the same time period of time that member has earned VRS service  
To be eligible for 5% purchase member must have applied for and either purchased or be under payroll deduction contract to purchase this service within 3 years of becoming eligible or by June 30, 2004          
If the member applies for this service after 3 years of becoming eligible or after June 30, 2004, the cost will be on an actuarial basis          
To be eligible for 5% payroll deduction, within 3 years of re-joining VRS or by June 30, 2004, member must have applied for and be under contract to purchase this service        
If the member applies for this service after 3 years of re-joining VRS or after June 30, 2004, member can purchase at 5% but only in lump sum                    
If the member applies for this service after 3 years of becoming eligible or after June 30, 2004, the cost will be on an actuarial basis          
Member can purchase this service at retirement on an actuarial basis effective July 2002                    
Member receives this service at no cost                    
Employer will complete a VRS-1501 if error occurred within in the last 3 years of current calendar date                    
If error occurred more than 3 years of current calendar date, then cost will be on an actuarial basis                    
Employer’s policy for payment of sick leave accruals determines service                    
Exception if requested purchase is used only in determining a reservist or national guard retirement                    
Honorable or general discharge
